RUNAWAYS FROM THEIR OWN FEARS: THOMAS HOBBES, JOHN LOCKE

In the history of Europe, Middle Ages and Enlightenment Era were full of bloody wars, political crisis and clash of religions due to newly arising sects. At the threshold of a new age those cases could seem like labour pains. But those times’ scholars were frightened and searched the causes of crises they faced. All theoreticians developed a unique point of view that is affected by their sphere and era in which they live, problems they faced and disturbing threats. They searched solutions to existing or possible problems and dreamed a life that has nothing to fear with the point of view that they developed. In this context, our study focuses on two British scholars, Thomas Hobbes and John Locke. They approach to the problems from two opposite sides. Why did they see different solutions to the crises they faced? This study searches if there is a relation between their theroies and their lives or not.
